Three houses have been burnt and property worth millions of shillings destroyed in Kasozi village, Kasambya Sub County in Kibaale district.

The burnt houses include that of one Jeremiah and Edson Karusa, all murder suspects. The two were on Friday arrested for allegedly poisoning to death 45 year old John Bikorwomuhangi, a fellow resident.

Bikorwomuhangi died on December 26 after drinking a tot-pack of Vodka gin purportedly laced with poison.

Following the incident residents descended on the suspects’ houses and torched them on Sunday at 5am.

Emmanuel Emuna, the officer in charge criminal investigations at Kakumiro police station, says among the burnt houses is that of Jeremiah’s son, Joseph Sseruganda. None of the family members was hurt in the attack as they took off on seeing the attackers.

Emuna explains that no arrests have been made so far but police have maintained its presence in the area to guard against retaliatory attacks as tension remains high. He says the hunt for suspects is also underway.

Meanwhile, body samples of the deceased person including liver have been taken to government analytical laboratory to ascertain the actual cause of death.
