This is not the first time that floods claim lives in the area. On September 13th, floods swept away 38-year-old Annet Tugume, a resident of Rurembo cell, in Butare parish, Muko Sub County and Rev. Fr. Flugence Habarurema, a Priest at Mutolere Parish in Kabale Diocese.

Fr. Habarurema passed away at Mutolere Hospital in Kisoro town where he had been rushed after being swept off his motorcycle by the floods while heading to Rubuguri Catholic Parish in Kisoro District for pastoral work.

On Sept 11, 2017, three children on oxygen lost their lives at Kisiizi hospital in Rukungiri district when floods ravaged the generator house plunging the hospital in darkness.

Floods also filled up the hospital compound, pediatric ward, medical ward, surgical ward, maternity ward, mortuary and church among other parts of the facility bringing services to a halt.
