Road Sign theft epidemic has hit the Kabale- Kisoro road. The road signs are being vandalized and sold as scrap to dealers.
 
Lead, aluminum and copper metals are demanding fetching a high price per tonne from the scrap merchants across the country and some unscrupulous thieves are targeting the road sign fixtures to dig into this lucrative business.
 
The thieves are targeting Iron Metals, Pipes, Galvanized Culverts and any Iron containing metals.
 
Road sign fixtures have todate been given a low security presence and the thieves are taking advantage of this.
 
Pastori Twinomuhangi, the Kabale district speaker warned on Wednesday that unless the Local Leaders tighten their vigilance, the Kabale-Kisoro Road, will be stripped of all its signs in the next two years.
 
The Nyamweru councilor, Lydia Turyahumura, described the road sign thefts as unfortunate. She said Police Should take Security Measures to arrest and prosecute the thieves.
 
The councilor says that the police should also conduct thorough checks of all metals being sold as scrap to dealers.
 
There are over 80 Scrap Dealers in Kabale Town buying all sorts of metal scrap from all kinds of scrap collectors.
