Seven students in Kanungu district have this morning skipped the primary leaving examinations because they are pregnant. The pupil's aged between 13 and 15 were expected to sit their final primary leaving examinations this morning, but instead failed to show up. George Bakiga, the district education officer, says the school mismanagement committees brought to his attention the status of the pupils. Bakiga was told that a total of 16 pupils were bound to miss their exams because some had conceived and others had decided to get married. The students are from Kishuro Primary School, Kyeshero Primary school, Kyantuhe Primary School Nkunda Primary School, Rwanga Primary School, Ihembe Primary School and Kyandago primary school. Bakiga says that this is the highest number of pupils missing their exams due to marriages and pregnancies. In Kanungu a total of 3, 748 pupils registered to sit for PLE, an increase from 3, 581 candidates in 2009.
