Pictorial: Dilapidated Kagwara Fish Handling Facility Top story

388 Views Serere, Eastern Region, Uganda

The Fish Handling facility at Kagwara is in sorry state. The facility, which comprises offices, fish shade, and store, fridge, and water tank and generator house among others, has never been used since it was built in 2009.
Serere District local government declined to receive the facility from the then Fisheries State Minister, Ruth Nankabirwa citing shoddy works. They also argued that the facility was not complete by the time of the handover in 2013.

The structure is now falling apart as most of the walls have developed huge cracks, the roofs blown off by wind and other parts of the structures vandalised by the community. The facility is now home to stray animals including pigs, goats and cattle grazing at the landing site.

In some instances, the structure is used for meetings especially students touring Kagwara Landing site. Currently, soldiers attached to the Fisheries Protection Unit have pitched camp in the compound of the facility. URN brings you some of the pictures.
