Lira Central Police Station is holding a former Lord’s Resistance Army rebel fighter, who allegedly stabbed his neighbor to death while in a drinking joint.

Richard Odur, 23, a resident of Atongo-Imwoco village, Apoka parish, Ogur Sub County reportedly stabbed Onyanga Dick on Sunday.

Eyewitnesses say trouble started when the deceased went to Odur’s wife and asked to be served food which she had prepared for her husband to celebrate the Labour Day.

Henry Alyanga, Central North Police spokesman says both the suspect and the deceased were taking alcohol together on that fateful day at the home of Okidi Denis, Odur’s father.

Alyanga says Odur will be charged with murder once investigations are complete.

He adds that Odur suspected Onyanga to be having a love affair with his wife. As the deceased settled down to eat, Odur sneaked out and came back with a sharp knife which he used to stab Onyanga in the neck.

The suspect however admitted to police that he stabbed Onyanga after they started fighting over playing cards but not because the deceased had asked his wife with food.

Odur, who says he was abducted by the LRA rebels in the early 2000, adds that he regrets the sudden death of Onyanga who has been his great friend for years since he returned from captivity.

He also claims that he is willing to compensate the bereaved family if granted the opportunity.
