Namutumba Police Officer Arrested for Rape

A police officer in Namutumba district has been arrested for rape. Detective Seargent Robert Kibita, is accused of raping a suspected criminal who was being detained at Ibukula police post in Namutumba district. In her statement to police, the victim states that Kibita came to the cell where she was detained at night and ordered her to remove her clothes and repeatedly raped her. She explains that she was alone in the cell at the time of the attack. Paul Baguma, the Namutumba District Police Commander, says that a medical report from Iganga hospital confirms that the victim was raped. Baguma says Kibita has been transferred to Iganga where he will appear before court to answer to charges of rape. In a related development, Police in Iganga are holding a 30-year-old-man, Yasid Nsada for raping a student of Busago Secondary School in Mayuge district. Philip Okware, the Iganga District Police Commander, says the suspect and others still at large committed the offence on Sunday night from Saza road in Iganga town.
