A record sixty foreign players have registered to take part in the event which opens the season on the Uganda Badminton (UBA) calendar. Uganda's top player who plies his trade in Netherlands, Edwin Ekiring is seeded 7th.

The Badminton World Federation (BWF) has seeded the world's 94th ranked player, Milan Ludik top of the men's draw for the 2015 Uganda International Badminton Championship.

Ludik, also the top player in the Czech Republic will have a tough time battling top foreign and local players when the event takes place February 19-22 at the MTN Arena, Lugogo.

A record sixty foreign players have registered to take part in the event which opens the season on the Uganda Badminton (UBA) calendar. Uganda's top player who plies his trade in Netherlands, Edwin Ekiring is seeded 7th.

Besides Ludik, Italy's Rosario Maddolani and Giovanni Grecco are also entered in the men's singles, while the women's top seed is Grace Gabriel from Nigeria.  Other foreign players are expected from India, Zambia, Egypt, Slovakia, Turkey, Hungary, South Africa, Bulgaria, Kenya, Mauritius and Iran.

Simon Mugabi, the Chief Executive Officer of the Uganda Badminton Association tells URN that they are delighted the tournament has attracted top players from around the world.

Mugabi said although Dinuka Karunaratne will not defend his men's singles title, other players from Sri Lanka have been drawn in the tournament. The event will have the men's and women's singles and doubles, together with the mixed doubles.

Uganda's top women's player Bridget Shamim Bangi who did not perform well in three European tournaments in Estonia, Sweden and Iceland last month said she is training hard to be able to perform and score more ranking points as she targets qualification for the 2016 Rio Olympics.
