The Council for East and central African Football (Cecafa) has confirmed the Malawi Flames as the only guest side that will take part in the 2012 Tusker Senior Challenge Cup in Kampala.

Nicholas Musonye, the Cecafa Secretary General, told Uganda Radio Network on phone from Nairobi on Friday that Malawi had won the slot ahead of Cameroon and Zimbabwe. Musonye said that the Malawians, who have participated in this tournament before, will replace Djibouti who will not take part.

The regional tournament which will include new comers South Sudan and the regions sole representatives to the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations, Ethiopia, takes place November 24 to December 6.

Musonye said three countries including Cameroon and Zimbabwe had earlier showed interest in participating in the same tournament but the regional organising committee has preferred The Flames. He described the Malawian team as a well coordinated, disciplined and competitive. This will be the third consecutive time Malawi is participating as a guest team since 2010.

The Cecafa Secretary General is expected in the country on Sunday ahead of the draws to be conducted on Monday. The other participating countries are Tanzania, Rwanda, Sudan, Burundi, Eritrea, Somalia, Zanzibar, Kenya and hosts Uganda who are also the defending champions.

The Somali National team is expected to arrive in Kampala this evening to camp at the Namboole Hotel as they prepare for the event. The Somalian team has always bowed out in the early stages of the Cecafa event, but are looking to reach the advanced stages.
