A-1 Challenge women’s team and Kyambogo Warriors (men) were in good form when their won their respective matches in the Airtel Basketball League games on Friday night at the YMCA court, Wandegeya.

The men’s defending champions DMark Power, who are not enjoying their best form lately, took charge of the first three quarters but failed to hold on when it mattered most, losing 75-56 to arch rivals Kyambogo Warriors. It was sweet revenge for the Warriors who had lost to the same side in the first round.

In-form Ronnie Kasewu was the man of the match for Warriors scoring a game high 15 points, while Henty Malinga and Syrus Kiviri had 14 and 11 points respectively. It was Joseph Ikong (15), Isaac Lugudde (12) and Isaac Afidra (10) who had double figures for the defending champions DMark Power.

In the women’s game A-1 Challenge who are placed third on the table placing hard to battle hard to beat Makerere University side Sparks 42-37. Makerere Sparks led A-1 Challenge for longer spells of the game, but the sharpness of Vickie Ntale (9), Mariam Birungi (7) and Liz Kizza won them the game.

Speaking after the game Federation of Uganda Basketball Federation (FUBA) President Ambrose Tashobya, said they are still trying to pursue using Lugogo Indoor Stadium and talks are still on-going with National Council of Sports (NCS) and MTN Uganda who renovated the facility. Last week MTN Uganda through NCS refused the Basketball body using the facility till they import modern hoops.
