In its last order of business this year, the Hoima District Council has approved the creation of Kikuube district. Kikuube district will be created out of Buhaguzi County that lies to the west of Hoima town. Yesterday evening the Hoima District Council overwhelmingly approved its creation to improve governance and service delivery and to create more jobs. There was however considerable opposition from council members from Kigorobya sub-county. James Mugenyi Mulindambura, the Kigorobya councilor, said there was no justification to award Buhaguzi and not Kigorobya district status. He argued that if some districts around Uganda, much smaller than Kigorobya can be given higher administrative status, his sub-county shouldn't be denied a similar opportunity. //Cue in: "Some of the areas ..." The Hoima speaker Yunus Mugabe said it wasn't appropriate for them to demand district status without making a formal request. Fred Kakoraki, the Kitoba LC5 councilor who moved the motion for the new district debate, said any new discussions would derail the process. Council will now forward unanimously to parliament for approval. George Tinkasimire Bagonza, the Oima LC5 chairperson, welcomed the creation of the new district. //Cue in: "In the beginning ..."
