Police in Luweero have arrested four members of the same family in connection with the murder of their 75-year-old relative Sarah Nanziri before making off with an unspecified amount of money at Namaliga village in Bombo town council.

Steven Semanda, the Luweero Criminal Investigations Department (CID) boss, identifies the suspects as Ronald Sekimpi (46), Fred Galizo (56) both sons to the deceased. He names the others as Jackson Muyige (26) and Scovia Nanziri (28) who are grandchildren to the victim.

He says that the suspects who have been picked up from different places in Kampala, connived on the 13th December 2012 and strangled Nanziri before going on the run.

He says that they made off with a lot of money she had kept in her bedroom and took her passport too. The deceased had just returned from London a few days before to celebrate the holidays with her family.

Semanda explains to Uganda Radio Network (URN) that preliminary investigations indicate that at least each of the four suspects played a part in the killing. He says that they had all spent the night with the deceased in the same house at Namaliga village.

He says that the murderers attacked the victim in her self contained bedroom during the night and strangled her. There was ample evidence of a struggle with clothes, suit cases among other property strewn around the room as she fought for her life.

Thereafter, they dragged the body from the bathroom and tried to mislead investigators that she had committed suicide by hanging her body by the neck on a crossbar with a bed sheet.

Semanda says that it was a 6-year-old granddaughter of the victim who discovered the body in the morning and raised an alarm that attracted neighbours.

He says that the post-mortem report from Mulago hospital indicates that she was strangled.
Semanda says that the suspects are face murder charges.
