The Chief of Defense Forces General Aronda Nyakairima has advised members of the UPDF living with the HIV/Aids to take advantage the modern medication available in all hospitals countrywide, instead of using traditional herbalists.

Aronda called on soldiers who are HIV positive to open up and take advantage of the available medication for a better living and good service to the nation.

Gen. Aronda was on Sunday commissioning a health center that was recently constructed by the UPDF Engineering Brigade at Mamaga Barracks in Jinja district.

Aronda stressed the need for all soldiers to voluntarily test for the HIV virus and establish their status, adding that it’s absurd that some people still trust traditional healers’ concoctions to cure them yet it’s obvious there is no cure for the virus yet.

He advised people who test and find that they are HIV negative to ensure that they steer clear of the disease by practicing either abstinence if they are not married or sticking to their partners if married.

He said those who lack self control must resort to condom use whenever they go for sex to avoid catching the virus.
For Magamaga Barracks in particular, Gen. Aronda emphasized the need for an immediate deployment of medical personnel specifically to handle cases related to HIV/AIDS since there is now a health center in place.

He assured the soldiers that there is going to be enough drugs to handle all HIV/AIDS related ailments and cautioned them against leaving the barracks to seek for treatment from quack herbalists.
