The Uganda Netball Association is fundraising for 28 million shillings to enable the national team to participate in the Africa Zone Five Netball Championships. The one week continental netball tournament is scheduled for February 25th to March 3rd in Zanzibar. The netball association's General Secretary, Rosette Kaala, says the association has written to several organizations, including the Ministry of Education and Sports requesting for support with little success. She says if all goes as plan, Uganda hopes to field two teams of 12 players each in order to create chances for favourable competition. Uganda did not take part in the 2003 edition of the Zone Five Netball Championships in which Tanzania emerged winners. This will be Uganda's first time in ten years for it to field a team for the championships.
