IGP Introduces Unit to Tackle Corruption and Police Misconduct

The Inspector General of Police, Maj. Gen. Kale Kayihura, has introduced a new Unit to fight corruption, and negligence of duty in the Uganda police force. Kayihura says the unit code named the Professional Standards Units will be headed by the commissioner of police, Godfrey Baingana, who will be answerable to the IGP. The professional standards unit of the Uganda police force will be responsible for handling citizen's complaints, investigating misconduct, and handling civil complaints brought against the police force and its employees. The unit is also the custodian of records for employees' personnel files and complaints. //Cue in: iI have already# Cue out: #of the force. Kayihura says the success of this unit will depend on the vigilance on the members of the public. Kayihura says a number of officers have so far been arrested for corruption related crimes and taken to court. Kayihura says he will not be compromised in building a police force that is free of corruption and is friendly to the people.
