A bar bouncer has been charged and remanded to Luzira prison for allegedly murdering in cold blood a former WBS TV engineer, Yahya Ssembajwe.

Wilson Bwambale, a bouncer at Breeze Bar in Kamwokya, Kampala appeared before Buganda Road Court, where a charge of murder was read to him.

He was however not allowed plead to the charges as the court does not have the powers to listen to the case. Murder charges are capital in nature and can only be heard by the High Court and not a magistrates court.

The 19-year old Bwambale allegedly hit the deceased with a brick on his head on the night of 11th December this year in the areas of Kamwokya. Ssembajwe died moments later at Mulago Hospital.

The deceased was on his way back from work at Naguru-based WBS TV.

He was heading to his second job at Voice of Africa radio located along Acacia Avenue in Kololo, when he was allegedly hit by the bouncer.

Eye witnesses suspect the deceased was hit because he had carried a laptop bag that the assailant could have targeted.

Upon reading the murder charges to the suspect, presiding Chief Magistrate Mary Kaitesi Kisaakye remanded him to Luzira prison until 19th January, when he will be produced in court for purpose of mention.

Bwambale faces up to a maximum penalty of death by hanging once proved guilty of murder.
