As a tradition, people often go wild partying as they usher in the New Year. But at the same time criminals always take advantage of the celebrations to cause mayhem

But Ssembabulidde says that motorized and foot patrols are combing several places around the region to guarantee peaceful celebrations. He adds that night operations will be strengthened today night when celebrations take effect.

The year 2013 according to police in Bunyoro, has been characterized by increased crime. Although crime statistics were not readily provided, motorcycle robbery cases have been most prevalent.

Meanwhile a single night spot had by last evening been cleared for display of fireworks in the region. The New Tunes Disco Theque-TNT in Hoima town had been cleared for this activity. According to the list sent to Albert region police headquarters, 82 companies are cleared to display fireworks on New Year’s Day countrywide.

Ssembabulidde explains that police will guide and monitor the fireworks display. He says the order is that the fireworks are displayed at exactly Midnight and end less than five minutes into the New Year.
