Head Coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic today told URN that the national football federation—FUFA—informed him that they are not in position to send the team to camp in South Africa as had been earlier planned.
The Coach had secured a camping base in Johannesburg for the team to train for a week and also have a few build-up matches. Micho said it is unfortunate they will not camp in South Africa, but added that they will try to maximize the time they have left with the players.
Mujib Kasule, the FUFA Vice President in-charge of the League and chairman of the technical committee, confirmed that the FA had decided to do away with the camp because of limited financial resources.
The Cranes used the recent Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup in Kenya to prepare the team ahead of the CHAN event. They lost in penalties to Tanzania at the quarter final stage.
Uganda Cranes, who failed to go past the Group stages of the 2011 CHAN tournament in Sudan, are grouped with Zimbabwe, Burkina Faso and Morocco. They will be based in Cape Town when the tournament runs from January 11 to February 1.
