Badru Mutebi, a hawker in Lwengo district has been electrocuted by an illegal power connection. Mutebi made his death on Friday morning at the premises ofEmmy Nansove inKitewuluzi-Nkunyu trading centre in Lwengo-rural subcounty, where he accidentally touched a live wire. Alex Kamoga, an eye witness says that Mutebi touched a live wire in the meter box behind Nansove’s retail shop. He says that they had Mutebi crying for help but when they found him dead. Kamoga says that they also found Nansove had fled the scene.

According to Kamoga, in September they warned Nansove from tapping power illegally from the supply pole to her house in vain. Paul Wataka, the Lwengo District Police Commander says that they are hunting Nansove over the illegal power connection leading to the death of Mutebi. Wataka says that he has received complaints from UMEME over the rampant illegal power connections in trading centers in Lwengo district. He says that they have registered about 37 cases of people who were admitted in hospital because electrical shocks from illegal connections. On Christmas Eve, Siraje Mugerwa a suspected quark electrician was electrocuted in Ssembabule town council while attempting to fix a faulty transformer.
