MP Godi Accuses Police of Torture

The Arua Municipality Member of parliament, Akbar Hussein Godi, says that he is being tortured in Luzira prison. Abdu Katuntu, the legislator's lawyer told court this morning that police have on three occasions visited Godi in Luzira prisons demanding that he makes a statement in relation to the murder of his wife. Godi is accused of murdering his 20-year-old wife Rehema Caesar. Rehema was shot dead by unknown gunman in Mukono on 4th of December. Rehema was gunned down by a man who was traveling in a Rav 4 car, similar to the one used by Godi. He was charged for the murder of his wife and remanded to Luzira prison till December 30th, when his case came up for mention. Today however, Katuntu claimed that his client was interrogated by police and wondered why the state is still harassing him. //Cue in: I wonder how Cue out: #the allegation that were labeled against him.// Katuntu brought the matter before Mukono magistrate's chief court Grade II magistrate Charles Kadisi. Geoffrey Mutebi, the prosecutor however denied knowledge of the alleged torture Katuntu also accused the police of attempting to rectify what he describes as the tramped up charges against his client. Magistrate Kadisi adjourned the case to the 13 of Jan 09 when the case will appear for mention and asked the accused to apply for bail from the high court.
